The WNBA Playoffs are underway with the ‘best of five’ semi-finals starting this week.  The Phoenix Mercury will take on the #2 seeded Las Vegas Aces in one semi-final while the Chicago Sky play the #1 seeded Connecticut Sun in the other.  There are 145 players on the twelve teams that make up the WNBA.

Marching Spoofhounds bring home trophies

The Maryville High School Marching Spoofhounds competed at the Carrollton Band Day September 25. The band placed second in the 3A field show competition and fourth in the parade. Food Pantry is available in WN school district

The West Nodaway Food Pantry is open to people living in the school district from 4 to 6 pm, Tuesdays, October 5, 12, 19 and 26 at the First Christian Church, Third and Ballard, Burlington Jct. There is also a food drop at 5 pm, Wednesdays, October 13 and 27. There are no income guidelines

Presiding Commissioner Bill Walker called the meeting of the Nodaway County Commission to order at the commissioner’s office.  In attendance: Walker, Chris Burns and Scott Walk, associate commissioners and Melinda Patton, county clerk. Walk made a motion to approve the agenda as presented. The motion passed.  Walk made a motion to approve prior commission minutes dated 9/23/2021.

Special Olympics holds local ‘state’ bocce tournament

When the local Special Olympics team was unable to travel to the Missouri State Special Olympics Bocce Tournament, Organizer Shirley Heideman held a local “state” tournament in Maryville’s Franklin Park. The medals were donated by the Nodaway County Sheriff’s Department and two deputies gave out the awards to the Special Olympic athletes.
