At the August 1 meeting, the Pickering City Council set the tax levy at the maximum allowed for the next year. The state has an equation the city must follow for the tax amount. It takes in the number of people plus the valuation of property to come up with the street levy of 91.18¢

The American Legion Post #528 will hold a freewill donation breakfast from 8 am to noon, Sunday, August 7 at the AL Post. The menu includes pancakes, biscuits and gravy, eggs made to order, bacon, sausage, coffee and orange juice.

The 2022 Maryville High School team, July 27, helped the Lions Clubs’ members to weed and cleanup the Freedom Rock® Plaza at Franklin Park in Maryville. At the end of the successful endeavor, the team along with Spoofhounds Head Coach Matt Webb and three Lions posed for a photo.
The Skidmore Punkin Show parade, July 30, was held on a mild and balmy summer day. Grand Marshals for the parade were Sharon and the late Kenneth Strauch. The couple started dating their sophomore year at Skidmore High School from which they graduated in 1959. They were married September 10, 1961, and celebrated 60 years
