At the August 7 Hopkins City Council meeting, the aldermen went into closed session at the end of the open session. During the session, personnel matters were discussed as well as the alderman vacancy. The Skidmore City Council at the August 10 meeting requested residents who aren’t on social media to give city hall information on how to contact them for city emergencies such as water boil advisories. The council and City Clerk Sadie McHugh received training with Zenner USA, Addison, TX, on the water meter and computer programs.
The 140th Celebration of Hickory Grove Schoolhouse and BBQ fundraiser will be held from 5 to 7 pm, Friday, August 25 at the Nodaway County Historical Society Museum, 110 North Walnut, Maryville. The museum’s meal is $15 per plate.

The 2023 Northwest Missouri State University M-Club Hall of Fame class has been announced. Seven individuals along with the 2013-14 men’s tennis squad and the 2013 Bearcat football team will be inducted this fall. Author Sue Nothstine, Barnard,will present her book, “Homeschool Tackle Box” co-written with Nancy Piercy and a new podcast for homeschool parents. She will talk about hosting a podcast.

AP Top 25 FBS Preseason Poll , 2023 Major college football (FBS) will soon be underway. This week’s proportional symbol map displays the AP preseason top-ranked team (Georgia) with the largest football and #25 Iowa with the smallest football. The pattern displays over half (13) of the teams are from the South. The SEC boasts
