The Best Friend Animal Society recognized the New Nodaway Humane Society Animal Shelter for being a No-Kill shelter in 2023. Shelters receiving the no-kill recognition award saved more than 90 percent of the dogs and cats in their care in calendar year 2023. In Missouri there are 123 no-kill shelters out of the 154 animal
The Maryville Parks and Recreation Board met on July 15 to receive reports from department leaders. Recreation Supervisor Kristy McLain and Sports Coordinator Emily Dew. The adult sand volleyball league had to extend the season due to rainouts. Sizzlin Hoops games have started and will continue until August 1. There are nine teams in the coed
By Morgan Guyer Incoming and current Maryville Spoofhound Golfers have had a busy summer fine tuning their game. The Spoofhound Golf Camp was July 15-19 at Mozingo. According to Spoofhound Head Coach Brenda Ricks, on most days there were 18 in attendance, including four new freshmen boys and a seventh grader also getting some experience.
The Ravenwood Community Breakfast will be from 8 am to noon, Sunday, July 28 at the Ravenwood Community Center. The menu is eggs, bacon, hashbrowns, biscuits and gravy, and pancakes. Cost is $10 for adults; children are $5. Proceeds of the breakfast will support the Northeast Nodaway High School Girls Basketball team.
At the July 16 Nodaway County Health Center Board of Trustees meeting, the food permit fees were reviewed and once again waived for the 2024-25 permit year. The annual tax rate hearing is scheduled for 9:30 am, Tuesday, August 20 with the board meeting to commence at 10 am. In June, there were 19 COVID

At the July 18 Skidmore City Council meeting, discussion was held on receiving the Gladys Rickard Trust matching grant of $15,000 for new playground equipment at Little People’s Park in Skidmore. Various ideas were discussed but nothing was decided. Those who are interested in donating for the playground equipment should contact Skidmore City Hall. Alderman

Marian Jean John Everhart, 90, Skidmore, died Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at her home. She was born August 19, 1933, in Peru, NE, to Albert Wendell and Alice Lucile Strait John.
