The annual Nodaway County Spelling Bee was held on February 13 at Maryville Middle School.

The winners were as follows: Bea Olasz, St. Gregory’s fifth grade, second alternate; AJ Adwell, Northeast Nodaway sixth grade, second place; Nino Coniglio, Horace Mann sixth grade, winner; and Malia Collins, Jefferson eighth grade, first alternate.

The spelling bee went until the 10th round when Adwell missed the word ‘stoic.’ Coniglio spelled correctly the word ‘hypothesis’ then the championship word of ‘contraband.’ Coniglio and Adwell will compete at the next level in St. Joseph.
