A Nodaway County school superintendent entered an Alford plea agreement July 2 before Judge William Richards in the Nodaway County Circuit Court following a Class B Misdemeanor Driving While Intoxicated charge from last November.

Northeast Nodaway Superintendent Jeffrey Alan Mehlenbacher, Ravenwood, entered an Alford plea, which does not find him guilty of the charge; however, he will be serving the penalty of two years probation supervised by Northwest Court Services.

Mehlenbacher’s Alford plea statement read: “On November 13, 2013, I was stopped for traffic violations near Conception, MO. I had drank beer earlier in the evening, and according to the officer’s testimony, I had failed several sobriety tests.”

Mehlenbacher must also successfully complete the Offender Education Program and the Midwest Victim Impact Panel, both by October 2, 2014.

Upon his Alford agreement on the DWI charge, the two other charges of Operating a Motor Vehicle Without Maintaining Financial Responsibility and Exceeding the Posted Speed Limit by 16-19 mph were dropped.
