At the August 7 meeting of the Pickering City Council, concern was expressed for the safety of children in two different instances. Crowds came out on August 4 to enjoy the draft horse pull at the three-day Pickering Horse Show. Robert Poole drives as his horses complete the required distance. The Northeast Nodaway Booster Club is hosting a free-will donation hamburger and hotdog supper from 5 to 7 pm, Tuesday, August 15 during the open house at the school. Chips, dessert and drinks are included and will be served outside at the school.

The Elmo Fish Fry is from 5 to 7 pm, Saturday, August 12 at the Elmo Community Building. In addition to fish there will be fried chicken, jacket fries, lettuce salad, coleslaw and baked beans. Cost is $9. Proceeds go toward the Elmo 4th of July celebration. The fry is sponsored by Elmo Community Betterment.
The Burlington Jct. American Legion Auxiliary will hold a spaghetti supper from 5 to 7 pm, Friday, August 11 at the American Legion Building in Burlington Jct. The supper will feature spaghetti, salad, garlic bread, drink and dessert. Cost is $7 for adults; children 10 and under are free.
