James LeRoy Hayden, 91, Graham, died Tuesday, May 9, 2018, at his home. He was born February 21, 1927 in Pickering to William and Nettie Hayden. Graveside services were held at Nodaway Memorial Gardens on May 11 with military honors.

Cattlemen host annual beef cookoff at Mozingo

The annual Nodaway County Cattlemen’s Association beef cookoff was held at the Mozingo Lake equestrian campground on May 19. Ten teams competed in three categories: beans, brisket and sirloin tip roast. The meat was provided by the association. Track athletes from Platte Valley, Nodaway-Holt and West Nodaway competed in Class 1 MSHSAA sectionals on May 12 at Lathrop High School. Northeast Nodaway senior Dylan Mildfeldt won the 100-meter dash to advance to the Class 1 MSHSAA state championship on May 18 and 19 in Jefferson City.
