New tax, accounting business opens in downtown Maryville

Marlene Florea has opened Florea Tax and Accounting Services LLC in downtown Maryville to expand and grow her business after previously running it out of her home.

Marlene Florea opened Florea Tax and Accounting Services LLC and Cindy Jones works in the office as the receptionist.

“I’ve built up the business already,” she said. “It’s not like I’m starting from scratch. I have a good base of clients and friends. It’s really like I’m just expanding.”

Florea started working in the tax and accounting industry with H&R Block in Maryville. She spent 15 years there until the owners sold the property. She then worked for the North Nodaway school district as the superintendent’s secretary and a few other jobs before she opened the business in her home.

She said her focus is on her clients and their needs.

“My clients come first and I am very flexible and willing to work with them,” she said.

Florea offers basic accounting and bookkeeping services, payroll, tax preparation and tax returns for individuals and businesses. She charges based on the client and their circumstances instead of per hour.

To stay with current trends and regulations, she takes online classes each year to make sure she’s up to date.

Florea Tax and Accounting Services is located at 114 East Second Street in Maryville.

It is open from 8:30 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday, and from 8:30 am to 2 pm, Saturday, during tax season. She is also always available by appointment.
