Among the best measures of success for a hospital are its patient satisfaction scores. The Ann Heflin Patient Satisfaction Award was launched at SSM Health St. Francis Hospital to recognize improvement in patient satisfaction.

The second quarter 2016 Ann Heflin Patient Satisfaction award was presented to the medical/surgical unit. The unit increased patient experience from 77.5 to 81.1 percent.

On August 9, Wendy Burke, SSM Health Medical Group Orthopedic & Sports Medicine Clinic, LPN, earned the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses for the second quarter of 2016 in recognition of her dedication to patients. Burke was nominated “for being such a great person/nurse and her attitude toward battling her terminal condition.”

Burke was diagnosed with stage four appendiceal adenocarcinoma. She has undergone extensive surgery and chemotherapy. She continued to work while taking treatment and rarely missed a day. Her nomination spoke to “the compassion and caring she shows patients. Her courage is an inspiration to fellow employees and patients. Her wonderful spirit and love for people is incredible.”

The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses is a national program that honors the super-human work nurses do for patients and families.
