Skidmore Community Betterment will hold a chicken dinner from 11 am to 1 pm, Sunday, October 23 at Newton Hall, Skidmore. The menu is fried chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, corn, salads, rolls and desserts. A free will donation will be accepted with takeout available for $6. Funds benefit community betterment projects.
The Ravenwood Community Betterment breakfast will be from 8 am to noon, Sunday, October 23 at the Ravenwood Community Building, West Hawk Street. Cost is $8 for adults and $4 for children. The breakfast includes sausage patties, bacon, hashbrowns, biscuits and gravy, eggs cooked to order, pancakes, coffee and juice. Proceeds benefit building upkeep.

The Elmo United Methodist Church will host a Lord’s Acre auction and dinner on Saturday, October 22 at the church. The dinner will commence at 11:30 am and will include ham loaves, pork loin and all the trimmings. The cost is $10, children ages five to 12 are $5. The auction starts at 1 pm
From Saturday, October 15 to Sunday, December 4, the Squaw Creek National Wildlife Refuge visitor contact station/refuge headquarters office will be open seven days a week. Hours on Monday through Friday are 7:30 am to 4 pm. Saturday and Sunday the office will be open from 10 am to 4 pm. The fall migration weekends
Local author Jason Offutt will present a paranormal events program starting at 7 pm, Friday, October 21 at the Nodaway County Historical Society Museum, Maryville. Offutt will talk about local haunts, UFO sightings, time travel, and Bigfoot. Offutt will also bring a selection of his books, for those who would like to purchase an autographed
The New Nodaway Humane Scoiety will host the annual fall supper from 5 to 7 pm, Thursday, October 20, at the First United Methodist Church, 102 North Main Street, Maryville. Proceeds will benefit the shelter animals.
The Second Harvest Community Food Bank’s mobile pantry will be in Sheridan from 1 to 3 pm, Tuesday, October 18. The mobile pantry will be in the parking lot of the Christian Church, 309 West Jefferson, Sheridan, and is open to the general public while supplies last.
