Susan Baker, Maryville, has elaborated on her book “For Such a Time as This” by writing a chapter by chapter lesson plan “Leader’s Guide” for group discussion on the Christian’s children’s book.
“This is a great book for children about living with God’s word,” Baker said. “It addresses every day questions children have. They can’t do it by themselves and this gives them ideas of how to work through problems.
“It is a fun packed adventure story with some intrigue and a touch of mystery,” she said. “Maddie faces difficult circumstances which she works out through scripture and the story of Esther.
“I’m trying to portray that we want children to be independent but they can lean on Jesus for everyday concerns, questions and struggles,” she continued. “We’re not alone. A great story for parents. We need to be involved, parents are vital lifelines. We can walk beside them and help them with problems by using scripture together.”
Baker has a degree in education and a masters in administration. She ended her career at Northwest Missouri State University as the supervisor of the early children center. She taught two classes at Northwest, child development and parent education. Upon her retirement, she pulled together previous writings into “For Such a Time as This.”
She and her husband, Roger, have three children and two grandchildren.
She worked on the “Leader’s Guide” for home school parents and churches. She has received interest from both groups. The guide also includes a synopsis of Esther.
The guide helps parents see how children can work through problems with biblical guidance, through prayer, journaling, visiting with God, parental support and friendship.
“For Such a Time as This” is available for sale at the Nodaway News Leader for $10. The “Leader’s Guide” can be obtained by contacting Baker at rbaker@mteoffice.com.
