The North Nodaway R-VI Board of Education met in open and closed sessions on March 15.

One bid was received on the mowing contract for 2017. Colby Wiederholt, Maryville, will return to mow both of the school grounds as approved by the board.

In closed session, the minutes from the previous closed session were approved.

Principal Tim Conn is organizing the second annual Spring Fever Reliever which will be held in April. He also reported that the teachers are preparing for MAP and EOC testing which will start in April.

The 59¢ per $100 valuation debt service levy is set to expire in 2019, so the board chose to put a $675,000 general obligation bond issue on the April 4 ballot. It will need to pass by a 4/7th majority.

The last public meeting was held on March 20. Information from this meeting is on the school website, nnr6.org, and a flyer will be sent home with the students and put in Wilson Grocery.

The list of priorities by order of importance are the replacement and installation of HVAC systems in both schools, new school buses, fire safety equipment in both schools, restroom remodels in both schools and resurfacing the high school parking lot.

The bond issue will extend the payoff period six years from 2019 to 2025. The tax levy will remain the same. The 59¢ levy does not max out the school district’s borrowing power. LJ Hart, St. Louis, financial advisors, are working with the school district on this issue.
