The child pornography possession case against a former Maryville city councilman was dismissed on August 2.

Shawn D. Wake, Maryville, had been charged in September 2016 with two counts of Class B Felony Possession of Child Pornography – 2nd or Subsequent Offense or Possession in the 4th Circuit Court of Nodaway County.

According to court documents, new charges were filed against Wake, three counts of Class D Felony Invasion of Privacy, on August 2. The reduction in charges means that if found guilty, he would not have to file as a registered sex offender.

The special prosecuting attorney assigned to the case, David Parman, said he could not comment on a pending case.

Judge Douglas Thomson recused himself as he did in the first case. The case is awaiting assignment of a new judge.
