The West Nodaway girls basketball team will be under the direction of first-year Head Coach Taylor Dameron, last year’s assistant to the Rockets who went 2-23 overall and 0-7 in the 275 Conference.

“We have a lot returning, but also a lot of unknown,” Dameron said. “(I’m) excited to see what we’ll have as a team.”

Top returning players include senior forward Hailey Hull who averaged 10 points per game, sophomore guard/forward Brittany McIntyre who averaged six rebounds per game and senior point guard Kristine Ecker.

Other projected impact players include senior forward Paige Hagey and junior guard Alissa Nelson.

Dameron said she expects their defense to be solid and will look to improve their offense.

“We played aggressive for 32 minutes toward the end of last year,” she said. “And we’ve got to be able to not go long stretches without scoring this season.”

She looks for Jefferson, South Nodaway, Mound City and North Nodaway to give the Rockets their toughest competition of the season.

The Rockets began the 2016-17 year at the PVI  where they lost to DeKalb and St. Joe Christian and then defeated Osborn.
