The Albrecht-Kemper Museum, St. Joseph, is opening a new exhibition in June: the (Women) Artists from the Collection, 1800-2022.

Works will be on view at the Albrecht-Kemper Museum of Art (AKMA) from Saturday, June 10 to Sunday, September 17.

An estimated 13 percent of the artists in most American museum collections are women. With a collection made up of almost 20 percent women artists, the Albrecht-Kemper Museum is excited to share this diverse body of work in (Women) Artists from the Collection, 1800-2022. Co-curated with Megan Wyeth and Soodie Beasley, the AKMA hopes to introduce viewers to artists that may have been overlooked or let them visit with their favorites.

Some of the 94 artists featured in the exhibition are Mary Cassatt, Janet Fish, Rosa Bonheur, and Kathe Kollwitz. Local artists include Dorothy Wenz, Susan Fay, Megan Wyeth, and Louise Bradley. The exhibition will be accompanied by a full-color catalog.

The Albrecht-Kemper Museum of Art aims to enrich the community through the collection and exhibition of visual arts by providing education, creating unique experiences and promoting emerging artists. The museum is open from 10 am to 4 pm, Tuesday to Friday and from 1 to 4 pm, Saturday and Sunday. Admission is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and $7 for students. Museum members and children under age six are free. To become a member, visit albrecht-kemper.org. For more information about the exhibitions, call 816.233.7003.
