Christmas parade lights up Main Street

Despite the cold temperatures, spectators and entries lit up Main Street during the Maryville Chamber of Commerce Christmas parade on December 7. The parade stretched from Second Street to Winter Wonderland at Franklin Park. The Grinch Grand Marshall was Nick Sowards, Boy Scouts Troop 75 scoutmaster. Troop 75 was awarded the $702.15 which was collected.

Maryville City Council approved multiple ordinances including the creation of the Tourism Grant Program during its regularly scheduled meeting on December 10. Hopkins gives city clerk 19 percent pay raise

The Hopkins City Council decided to give City Clerk Dee O’Riley a 19 percent pay raise effective January 1, 2019, at the December 3 meeting. Graves announces City of Maryville to receive $10.4 million BUILD grant

Congressman Sam Graves, incoming Ranking Member for the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, announced December 6 that the City of Maryville has received a Better Utilizing Investments to Leverage Development (BUILD) Transportation Discretionary Grant or BUILD grant. The City of Maryville will receive a $10.4 million BUILD grant for its South Main Corridor Improvement Project.

Pickering picks new alderman

The Pickering City Council confirmed the appointment of Juliana Judd as an alderman at the December 3 meeting. Juliana is stepping in to fill Brad Judd’s position on the city council. She will serve until the April 2020 election. Brad’s position became open when he moved outside of Pickering’s city limits. Juliana is Brad’s mother.

The annual Salvation Army Bell Ringing Campaign has begun in Maryville and volunteers are needed for the fundraising drive which keeps all donations in Nodaway County. MDC reports November firearms deer harvest ends with 199,427

Preliminary data from the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) shows deer hunters in Missouri harvested a near-record 199,427 deer during the November portion of fall firearms deer season, November 10 through 20.
