Rocking L Races has entered its second summer. Lyle, who is a member of the National Barrel Horse Association, saw a need in the area for family horse activities.

The races are open to boys and girls, men and women. The racers accumulate points throughout the season to be eligible for a full set of awards including horse blankets, belt buckles and other items. Her races are a co-sanction of the Bonus Race Finals, meaning racers who earn points in the series will qualify to compete in the Bonus Race Finals in Lincoln, NE, at the Lancaster Event Center, June 8-11, 2017.

The barrel races are held in Bedford, IA, at the fairgrounds and in Barnard at the Dakota Sisk Memorial Arena, near Graham. All proceeds from the concession stand goes back to the Dakota Sisk Memorial Arena fund.

There are three categories for riders to compete in. The peewee class is for children ages 10 and under. Horses must be lead in and may only walk and trot. The peewee class entry fee is $5. Children ages 8 to 10 may compete in the youth category for a $15 entry fee.

The open category fee is $25 to participate. It is available to any age that wishes to enter. Individuals must compete in the open category to accumulate points for the Bonus Race Finals.

Those who are interested in participating may register at the race. There is no pre-entry fee and no membership dues.

Rocking L Races has sponsorships available. Businesses or individuals who are interested in becoming a sponsor of the barrel races should contact Lyle at 816.261.5152 or rockinglraces.com.

The next event is 6:30 pm, Friday August 5 at Dakota Sisk Memorial Arena.
