Leadership Maryville is a seven month program designed and originated in 1986 to both nurture leadership skills and create awareness of community needs and resources.

“I was fortunate to be chosen to participate in the 36th Leadership Maryville class. I learned we’re part of a wonderful community built by diverse small businesses, emergency response teams, medical personnel, quality education, and more. I’m lucky to have settled here and taken the chance to learn more about one of the best small towns the Show Me State has to offer. This program poured into me as a person, local employee, and community member. I appreciate the opportunity to utilize the skills I learned to continue bettering Maryville, just like our current leaders do,” noted recent graduate Bailey Christensen from Mosaic Medical Center – Maryville.

Goals of the program are to develop the leadership skills of individuals, nurturing and growing emerging community leaders, and promoting the Maryville community, along with its resources, assets and programs.

Leadership Maryville participants meet once a month, January through July. Sessions start with a full-day opening retreat led by Dr. Tim Crowley, followed by six-half day sessions, each with a dedicated community focus. In addition, the cohort participates in a special trip to Jefferson City to attend Great Northwest Days, and it completes a community improvement project of its choice. Typically, the cohort has about 12 participants representing a wide variety of Maryville employers. The upcoming class is the 37th, demonstrating the sustainability of the wonderful program.

“Being a part of the Leadership Maryville group was one of the best decisions I have ever made. I have a new sense of pride for our community after learning about everything it has to offer. I also have made some amazing friendships through the group which I’m sure will last a lifetime,” said Lauren Adams from Northwest Missouri State University and a recent graduate.

Tuition for participants is $500, but only $400 for those employed by Maryville Chamber of Commerce member businesses.

“Typically, the tuition received does not cover expenses so sponsorships are extremely important for continued success,” said Chamber Executive Director Becky Albrecht. “Any and all amounts are appreciated.”

Sponsorships of $250 or more will be recognized in a variety of ways:

● Acknowledgement on social media posts and the Chamber webpage.

● A promotional slide in the license bureau slide show.

● The business name will be added to program handouts.

● Inclusion in a press release to local media.
