Savaiano held a book signing for her new books “Gramma and Her Pogo Stick” and “My Gramma Has Ants in Her Pants.” Her main character is a spunky grandmother whose adventurous streak gets her into hilarious situations.

The “Gramma” books are based on true stories about the author’s mother Jeanie Moyer. Moyer was 70 years old when she tried to ride her grandson’s pogo stick. Moyer said she has several additional story ideas for future books.

Savaiano grew up in Maryville, attending Horace Mann and Maryville High School. She received her master’s in elementary education from Northwest Missouri State University and taught preschool and kindergarten for 15 years.

Savaiano wrote the stories about 20 years ago. They were rejected by a publishing company and she tabled the idea of printing the stories herself because she did not know an illustrator. Her husband encouraged her to try again and this time, working with Westbow Press, she was able to realize her dreams. She hopes to finish another book this year.

“I enjoy children’s books and rhyming,” Savaiano said.

She and her husband live in LeClaire, IA, where they enjoy spending time with their three daughters and eight grandchildren.

Her books may be purchased on amazon.com or at the Nodaway News Leader.
