Nodaway County Clerk Karen Leader submitted her resignation to Governor Eric Greitens on April 10, effective immediately.
In her letter to the governor, she wrote: “I took this position believing that I could handle the work but I am overwhelmed by the stress and it is affecting my health.”
She also stated she will becoming a grandmother “any day now” and she would like to be able to spend time with him.
She continued: “It has been an honor to be a public servant to Nodaway County and I believe it to be in the best interest for me to step down.”
Leader was appointed by then-Governor Jay Nixon in October 2015 following the resignation of Beth Walker. She had previously served as deputy clerk for the county since 2003.
