Maryville

Maryville R-II met July 19 to conduct business and accept bids.

The Maryville school board awarded J’s Concrete Construction, Maryville, the concrete bid not to exceed $20,000 for the building trades house.

Assistant Superintendent Steve Klotz gave building project updates. The performing arts center interior is half painted. Seats were installed July 20. The final wall is being placed and utilities are being installed. The center is projected to be finished by the first day of school, August 18.

District staff chose to wait until the center’s completion to move the weight room to the high school. Klotz projected it would be October when the weight room move was complete.

A change order was approved for $25,000 to finish the catwalk structure in the performing arts center.

Blue Cross Blue Shield donated $2,000 for the school’s employee wellness program. Melissa Coffelt, middle school nurse, is organizing monthly employee wellness activities.

FFA members are in Washington, DC, July 17 to 21 for a leadership conference.

District administration is adjusting the job description for Josh McMillen, school resource officer. They would like to expand his role in the school and increase his visibility. Some expansion ideas include more professional development, guest lectures and possibly teaching health classes next year.

“McMillen is very positive and engaged with our students,” said Klotz.wpid-MHS.indd_
