You don’t have to live by a beach to play beach volleyball. But, it helps! The per-capita production of Division I beach volleyball players is greatest in the southwest and west with Hawaii leading followed by California, Arizona and New Mexico.

California produces 255 or 31.2 percent of all players. There are 53 Division I beach volleyball programs resulting in 817 players. Beach volleyball is the 90th and newest NCAA sport.
