Maryville is embarking on a comprehensive improvement program to modernize the city’s aging water meter and distribution system to advanced metering infrastructure (AMI).

The city has partnered with Schneider Electric to replace nearly 4,200 water meters, integrate these meters into an AMI platform and provide leak detection technology to specific areas along the water mains. The new systems will upgrade the meter population to recapture lost system revenue and allow the city to upgrade the meter reading process. The AMI system will be integrated in the city’s billing software creating efficiencies within the overall process, preventing recording errors, enhancing information for leak identification, minimizing city employee visits to private property to read meters and improving the overall services provided by the public works staff.

To replace the meters across the city, Schneider Electric and its partners will be contacting residents and commercial building owners to provide a time frame for replacement. The contact will take place through several efforts: direct mail, via city billing statements, door hangers and direct calls to building owners as needed. The replacements will be taking place from 8 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday.
