Three residents claimed the Farm Animal Ordinance was not legal at the August 1, Pickering City Council meeting.

The trio received letters and a copy of the ordinance after a complaint about a pig was filed with Mayor Charles Smith. The citizens claimed the ordinance was illegal because two members of the same household, Bill and Linda Young, signed the ordinance when both served on the city council. The residents also said that the pigpen was only a foot into the Pickering city boundaries.

Milt Sovereign, city clerk, will discuss the matter with David Baird, city attorney. Further discussion was tabled on the Farm Animal Ordinance until the 6 pm, September 12, council meeting.

The council will set the new tax rate levy at the September meeting.

Letters sent to residences have prompted action. The property owner of 116 South Coleman moved a wrecked car, but has not cleared weeds and brush off the property.

Recent storms caused a number of tree branches to fall. Citizens piled debris at the South Park. The council discussed burning the pile this winter.

Council members discussed finding the owner of a dog at-large. The dog has displayed aggressive behavior. Council members want to notify the dog’s owner that the dog must be kept contained.PickeringSign
