Northeast Nodaway hired the school’s K-12 principal, Ken Grove, as its 2016-17 superintendent.

Northeast Nodaway Librarian Kila Henry addressed the school board regarding the library program. She stated that library staff backs up data daily and weekly data backups are stored off-site. There have been 156 books added to the library.

Henry stated that the Scholastic company informed her that the district did not have enough sales during its last book fair to host book fairs in the future. The school’s book fair proceeds totaled $700 or better for each of its last two book fairs, earning the school $400 of Scholastic merchandise. It is unknown whether this will be a permanent ban from Scholastic.

The 2015-16 audit was presented and approved.

The auditor recommended amending the budget so expenses do not exceed budgeted amounts. The amendment was approved.

Kendra Pickering, Lunchtime Solutions representative, presented an overview of the lunch program for evaluation. It was approved.

Superintendent Jeff Mehlenbacher gave a report on the special education department’s evaluation. He said staff strengths included collaboration with regular education staff and willingness to change their own schedules to accommodate needs. He stated the staff could improve classroom interventions before referring students to the program and the department needs to focus on using its resources for students in need and not for other needs.

The iPads ordered by the PTO have arrived and are in use.

The school board nominated Andrew Freemyer as the Belcher Scholarship district representative. Freemyer will receive a $200 scholarship from the Northeast Nodaway Education Foundation and advance to compete at the state level.

The resignation from Sara Mehlenbacher was accepted effective at the end of the current school year.

The resignation from Jeff Mehlenbacher was accepted during the November school board meeting, effective July 1, 2017.
