With the pronouncement of Dr. Ken Grove’s paid administrative leave on October 17 during a closed session of the board of education, the board has appointed Jason McDowell as the interim superintendent effective immediately.

McDowell is also serving as the head principal of the school.

“I’m lucky to have a fantastic assistant principal in Bryan Grow who will be taking over some of the duties I’ve performed as principal. We have worked together pretty seamlessly over the past year and a half which will help,” said McDowell.

“As far as the superintendent responsibilities go, I’ve completed my specialist and am certified for the position. There’s a learning curve that comes with any new position. I’ve had multiple current and former superintendents offer up assistance. I am very open to the knowledge of others and am not afraid to ask questions when I need to,” continued McDowell.

McDowell has addressed his primary goals during his superintendent tenure.

“Being fiscally responsible with taxpayer dollars, while keeping the needs of students and staff at the forefront is my goal. My comfort level will increase as I continue to work with the budget throughout the school year as well. I’m looking forward to the challenge.”

When asked if he intends to apply for the superintendent position, he said, “My long term goal has always been to be a superintendent. I will be trying to gain as much knowledge regarding this position as I can as long as I’m given the opportunity. We will see how the pieces of the puzzle come together and then I’ll be able to answer that.”

McDowell also explained his tasks with this new challenge.

“In my office I have a sign that says “What Good Shall I Do This Day?” I look at it daily to help guide me through any decisions I have to make. This new opportunity will give me a whole other way to live this out in regards to our students, teachers and other district stakeholders.”
