Maryville R-II School Board met November 16 to change life insurance providers and conduct the following business:

The Maryville school board approved changing voluntary life insurance companies from usable to principal due to billing errors and poor customer service. With the change, employees will have increased coverage, from $100,000  to $150,000, and decreased rates.

The board approved hiring an additional part-time speech language pathologist due to increasing numbers of children requiring services. Staff hopes to hire a pathologist to begin second semester.

The following students were recognized during the student showcase:

•Zac Voss presented his student data notebook

•Lauren Macali was recognized for competing at the state level in tennis

•Emily Long was showcased for her golfing accomplishments

•Lydia Mitchell, Laura Feuerbacher, Caleb Feuerbacher, Joshua Sanders-Alvarez, Jonathan Holtman, Zachary Kizer, Colin Arnold, Jaren Golightly, Joseph Rousseau, Luca Mattiussi, Chase Sims and Chad Sullivan was recognized for their achievements at the state cross country competition

Superintendent Becky Albrecht reported that staff learned how to deal with the aftermath of an active shooter scenario, including first aid care while waiting for authorities to clear the building, during professional development.

Due to compensation insurance claims, the district can expect policy costs to significantly increase.

Maryville Middle School Principal Kevin Pitts reported that Leader in Me staff will be on site to review Maryville Middle School for lighthouse status on January 27, 2017.

The roof on the FEMA gym structure is in progress.

Eugene Field’s flagpole has been installed.

The district’s audit was good and no issues were detected.

The APR for the district was 99.3 percent. Members held a discussion on how to increase this for the following year.
