The Maryville Band Boosters have started a capital campaign to raise money for Maryville Bands.

The organization hopes to raise $40,000 to purchase band instruments and equipment for concert bands and jazz bands at Maryville Middle School and Maryville High School. In addition, the organization intends to purchase much-needed replacement instruments and equipment for the Spoofhound Marching Band, one of the most visible student organizations at MHS.

“We are grateful for our friends from Northwest Missouri State University and area public schools who have graciously allowed us to borrow instruments the past several years,” says Nathan Wehmeyer, band director. “Our hope is to move in a direction where we rely less on our friends and can strategically purchase replacement instruments for some of our outdated equipment that is barely functional. Our students work hard and deserve to play quality instruments.”

Maryville Band Boosters encourages friends and past participants of Maryville bands to consider a donation this year.

Organization President Brian Smail says, “This fundraising effort is important because it supports both middle school and high school band students and will serve as a long-lasting gift for the concert, marching and jazz bands. We are excited to invite the Maryville community to help us in this important endeavor.”

A kickoff event will occur from 5 to 8 pm, Tuesday, November 20 at Maryville Hy-Vee. The campaign will receive 10 percent of proceeds of all sales from the salad bar, Chinese or Hickory House meals.
