The Maryville City Council approved the annexation of approximately 20 acres of real estate during its regular meeting April 24.

The tract of 20.87 acres is owned by Randy and Susie Holtman and located along the corner of South Hester Street and East South Avenue. The city will not be extending municipal services such as sewer lines and hook ups; those will be the responsibility of the property owners. The Holtmans plan to divide the tract into 10 lots, building 10 homes in the $200,000 price range which is estimated to increase property taxes by $26,371.

The council approved the purchase of a pump for the northwest lift station from Allied Systems, Inc., Omaha, NE, for $10,702.85, almost $1,300 under budget. This will be the third pump at this location and will allow staff to run the pumps alternately, increasing the life of all the pumps.

Allied Systems has done all the major repairs on the city’s lift stations and usually comes in as the lowest bid on parts. Allied’s was the only bid the city pursued for the pump.

A transfer switch for a sewer lift station was purchased from Coenen Enterprises, Inc., Maryville, for $6,850, which was over budget. It was approved to utilize some of the savings from purchasing the pump to cover the cost of the switch which will allow the generator at the northwest lift station to come on automatically. Currently, during power outages and emergencies, staff must manually switch on the generator.

The Westridge Estates lift station pump is inoperable. Repairs are estimated to cost $6,000. Instead of repairing it, the council voted to allow White Cloud Engineering and Construction, Inc., Maryville, to extend the sewer main to the lift station at Oak Pointe Assisted Living, installing 282 linear feet of eight-inch sanitary sewer main. This will allow the city to eliminate the Westridge Estates lift station which has had several failures and repairs.
