A good example of a regional sport is water polo. There are 32 NCAA Division I teams that play women’s water polo. Most are located in California or on the east coast. Since 2001, when the NCAA Women’s Water Polo Championships were first held, only California schools have won a title. California produces more than two-thirds of the water polo players. Less than 15 percent are foreign players coming mostly from Canada, Australia and Spain.Slide1
