Students at Eugene Field Elementary spent the morning of June 20 drawing “freedom” on the schools sidewalks. Three teachers chose three students from every class to participate. Each student was able to write one letter, adding whatever designs they wanted to it. The day started off with a morning announcement giving background information on the holiday. Juneteenth celebrates the emancipation of slaves in America, and was first recognized as a federal holiday on June 19, 2021.
