Shawn Emerson was hired as Nodaway-Holt’s High School principal for the 2017-2018 school year following Ethan Sickle’s resignation.

Emerson, originally from Lawson, attended Northwest Missouri State University earning a dual major in elementary education and physical education in 2001. He earned his master’s in educational leadership from William Woods University, Fulton, in 2013.

“Mr. Emerson brings with him several years of educator and administrative experience. His strong focus on teaching and learning and the dedication to the success of all students will be a great asset to the district,” Jeff Blackford said. Blackford was hired as Nodaway-Holt’s 2017-2018 superintendent following the resignation of Karma Coleman.

Emerson began his professional career at Northeast Nodaway teaching 7-12 physical education, coaching softball and basketball and as the athletic director. After two years there, he moved to South Nodaway. He spent five years teaching K-12 physical education before being promoted to the 7-12 principal and athletic director where he served three years.

Emerson then moved to Falls City, NE, where he has been the elementary principal for the past three years.

“When I came over for the interview, it really felt like home. The questions asked show they put the students’ interests first. I’m looking forward to working with the students and the staff. I’m looking forward to coming back to the area,” Emerson stated.

Emerson and his wife, Jill, have a six year old son, Jaxon. Emerson stated it is uncertain at this time if the family will be moving, but they are excited about the change.
