The Northwest Missouri State University Dance Company will host a performance at 7 pm, Friday, November 2 at the Ron Houston Performing Arts Center.

Featured in the show will be dancers from all over campus, a special performance by the University Police Department and a few new pieces Advertising Chair Mariah Erickson said the company is keeping a secret. The entire performance will fall under the hashtag #GetJiggy2018 and will also feature UPD officers as the emcees for the event.

Tickets cost $5 and can be purchased online through links on the company’s Facebook page, in the union or at the door the night of the event. Doors open at 6:30 pm.

With six weeks of rehearsal going into the one-night-only event, two-year veteran Erickson stated the show is going to be a blast for those of all ages to watch.

“I think that people should definitely come from the town to see it,” Erickson said. “It shows that everyone can have a chance to dance and it might help encourage little kids who are in dance or thinking about dance to continue working.”

While Erickson believes this is a great event for the town and campus to come together, she also explained it could be especially exciting for Northwest students to see their peers in a different light.

“A lot of friends that you didn’t know were in dance company will be performing because people don’t usually advertise that they are in dance company,” Erickson said. “We have girls from different sororities, clubs and activities that are all going to be coming together Friday night to put on a great show.”

After being a part of the organization as a dancer and a choreographer, Erickson said she is excited to see what the new members will bring to the big stage.

“We have a lot of new members, so I’m excited to see our new members dance on stage because we are a no dance experience required company,” Erickson said. “Some of these people have never performed before so they get to experience the lights, makeup and costumes for the first time and that’s really exciting.”
