The Clearmont City Council had a roomful of residents for a couple of topics the council did address during the October 15 meeting.

Faye Smith and son, Mike Smith, addressed a past issue with low water pressure that was corrected in 2016. The Smiths were asking the council to review their procedure and costs of repairs that occur on a water line that lies before the water meter. The council listened and understood the situation. While there are no written procedures the council is aware of, Councilwoman Nell Cowden noted she would do more research.

Donovan Harris and his father, Steve, were requesting information on the progress of the alley closure/opening question that was posed to the council several months ago. The alley that is behind Harris’ property, which he purchased earlier this year, is also behind a property owned by Katrina Dolin, who was also present. Dolin, in 2008, built a fence to the center of the alley after the council of that era ruled the property owners could survey their lots to exact size in relation to the alley. No action of the owners or council was taken at that time.

Council reported to the gallery that no progress has been made on the issue. Now the council is researching the legal aspect of closing or opening the alley.

Patti McElroy was also present as a supporter of the residents who wish to keep the alley closed.

City Clerk Linda Babcock reported correspondence was received from Debbie Engel, a property owner along the same alley, stating they did not want the alley closed.

Water sewer personnel, Kristi Snodderley said there are four residents who are on the shutoff list if payments are not made by October 16. One resident is being shut off until a leak on the property is fixed, since presently their monthly payment doesn’t catch up their bill.

Cowden requested definite rules on water turnoffs from Snodderley.

Councilman Herb Snodderley told of an appointment with R&S Electric to fix the sewer lift pump.

Street maintenance work is planning to use a new hot mix from a firm in Kansas City in the potholes.
