Being bored one day, friends Dalanie Acklin and Brylin Jones decided to go door-to-door in Barnard selling lemonade and cookies to benefit the New Nodaway County Humane Society Animal Shelter.

The girls raised $244 for the shelter. Dalanie, daughter of Paul and Melanie Henggeler and Wes and Casey Acklin, is a seventh grade student at South Nodaway. Brylin, a sixth grader, was visiting her grandmother, Connie Murphy, Barnard.

This is the second time the girls have sold lemonade together. Last year they raised $20.

“I’m really proud of them,” said Melanie. “The animal shelter has lost funding. For kids to think about that is really awesome. With Barnard having 200 some people, to raise that amount is amazing.”
