At the Pickering City Council meeting on March 8, the aldermen approved $1,400 to be paid to White Cloud Engineering for the replacement of a recirculating pump at the sewer plant.

There are six pumps and this is the second pump to be replaced in the sewer plant’s nine-year history. A company had to be hired to pump a resident’s sewer well which had filled before the resident’s pump could be replaced.

In other business, the storm brush pile has been burned.

A certified letter will be sent to the owner of a running-at-large dog. City Clerk Milt Sovereign had sent a previous letter to the owner, but nothing had been done.

Discussion was held about the city clerk position, if Sovereign is unable to do it. Each month, Alderman Kevin Leedom wants Sovereign to complete a list of his duties and activities so that a template will be available.

Sovereign agreed to make the template because the city could be in serious trouble if payments are missed, he said.

Leedom also wants an ID for the aldermen to use when they are conducting city business.

KCP&L notified the city that the company would be in town cutting branches out of power lines. Discussion was held on what the city could do to remove other low-hanging branches on some streets.
