The Jefferson School Board of Education met August 18 to address the following:
Prior to the regular meeting, the board held a public hearing regarding the tax hearing. Superintendent Tim Jermain walked the board through the process of how the district figures its tax rate for the school’s fiscal year as regulated by the state. Going into the meeting, the board approved the levy at $5.4996 which is anticipated to give the school a revenue of $763,040 if fully funded.
New staff Cree Beverlin and Jennifer Coburn were present to meet the board.
Elementary and high school principal reports included information on open house activities as well as how the first few days have gone.
During the superintendent report, the board discussed the possibility of providing transportation for junior high and high school athletics co-oping with other schools. The board decided to table the issue for next spring because no viable option could be determined.
Jermain informed the board on Amendment 3 that will be on the November ballot in Missouri that would directly affect teacher tenure and instead determine it directly on student test evaluations. Jermain said that more state standardized tests would then be given to better evaluate teachers if the amendment passes.
The consent agenda was approved which included the payment of the month’s bills and the substitute teacher list for the 2014-15 school year.
The 2014-15 budget was authorized by the board. The board also accepted a resolution agreement with American Fidelity Insurance for the district’s insurance.
After going into closed session, the board resumed the open meeting and approved to hire Linda Russell as the school nurse for the 2014-15 school year.
