Harvest hits high gear

 Nodaway County’s combines are skirting across the row-crop fields at as quick a pace as the bumper-yield will allow.

The corn harvest is just getting started in the county with about one-fourth of the crop in the bin, according to Sean Wonderly, grain merchandiser at Consumer’s Oil Co., Maryville. Wonderly went on to say, “The yields are all around 200 bushels to the acre. If the rains hold off, the corn will really be coming our way at the end of this week.”

He also spoke to the storage challenges that so far by hauling to Bartlett’s in St. Joseph, who move the grain by railcars.
