Downtown group announces winner of scarecrow contest

The Maryville Downtown Improvement Association announced the winner of the first Scarecrow Contest. Accent Printing, 114 East Third Street, took inspiration from Grackle Mania, one of the Maryville Gallery of Outdoor Art pieces, for their first place entry.

Rod Couts, owner, holding the traveling trophy, Patty Harris and Melody Blair, employees, pose with their creations. Keitha Clapp, Maryville Florist, presented the trophy on behalf of the downtown association. Judging of the 17 entries in the scarecrow contest was by students from Northwest Missouri State University’s Art Education Club.

    Weight restriction lifted on Nodaway River bridge

     The weight restriction on the Nodaway River Bridge on Route A, just east of Maitland, has been lifted, according to the Missouri Department of Transportation. On Monday, Sept. 22, MoDOT inspectors reopened the bridge after flooding, but placed a 20-ton weight restriction on
