During the January 18 Northeast Nodaway School Board meeting, a bid was approved to install air conditioning in the old locker rooms, gym and the cafeteria.

Al’s Heating and Cooling, Maryville, was awarded the bid for $57,500. The company will do the work during the summer.

Incite Design Studio, Kansas City, will be invited to attend the February meeting to present the services it offers to the board. It is one of several design firms that school administrators are considering using to design the new track complex. The complex’s topographical survey has been completed. Once the layout has been designed, contractors can begin with soil sample testing.

During a closed session, Jason McDowell was hired as the principal for the next school year. Drew Bruner was hired to fill the math position.

Denise Henggeler reported on the professional development program.

Superintendent Jeff Mehlenbacher presented the board with certificates to show his gratitude for their hard work. He told them that he couldn’t put a value on the time they have spent and the talents they have donated to the school. He said the district is better because of them. He made a $100 donation to the Missouri Chapter of the Children’s Tumor Foundation in the board’s honor.

Northeast Nodaway School Board of Education members are Katrina McIntyre, two years, Secretary Pam Spire, three years, Kenna Florea, one year, Darrin Adwell, four years, Sheldon Scadden, two years, President Kenny Runde, 21 years, and Vice President Jeff Redden, six years.

Elementary enrollment is 119 and the junior high/high school is 92.

Students of the month and effort award winners were entered into a drawing with Brayden Welch and Wesley Rucker winning $50 gift cards.

Principal Ken Grove said the float creation day went well.

The cheerleading squad will be competing at the state level.

The Valentine dinner for second and third graders will be on Valentine’s Day.

The February school board meeting has been changed to Wednesday, February 15.
