The North Nodaway R-VI Board of Education met in open and closed sessions on November 13 to handle the following school district business.

Superintendent James Simmelink reported the rough draft of the annual audit had been received on November 13. He had spotted two errors on the opening page; therefore, he made the decision to review the draft with the auditors. After corrections are made, Simmelink will send the draft to the board members for review. The audit will need to be approved at the December 19 meeting as it must be submitted to the state by December 31.

A four-year lease with ProServ, St. Joseph, was approved for four copiers. Simmelink believes the school district will receive better service from the new company.

The Missouri United School Insurance Council quote for insurance was accepted. School board liability, worker’s compensation, buses, general liability and property and equipment break down in the amount of $45,046 and an additional $1,373 for a $2 million umbrella liability.

Simmelink thinks the bus driver shortage will soon be resolved. He has been driving one of the routes both morning and evening. A substitute has taken over his evening route so Simmelink can spend more time with teachers and staff.

Jamie Snead is going to check the exercise equipment at the school’s health center. Several treadmills are not in working order. Simmelink stated if the treadmills are not repairable he will look at replacing them with a $3,000 donation recently received from Kawasaki Motors.

In closed session, Shelley Combs was hired as the basketball cheer coach.
