The Nodaway-Holt R-VIII School Board accepted resignations during its regular meeting January 18.

Nodaway-Holt School Board of Education members are, front: Jim Fuhrman, three years, Vice President Joe Day, 10 years, Mike Rosenbohm, 19 years, Secretary Beverly Shifflett, 26 years, Jane Hanson, three years, President Bob Saxton, 17 years, Scott Clement, three years, and Kenny Shewey, two years.

The retirements for Bob Svoboda and Robin Shamberger were accepted effective at the end of the school year.

The State Board of Education accredited Nodaway-Holt.

TransCanada donated a pickup to the district. Discussion was held about purchasing a snow plow for the truck. No action was taken.

The school’s digital sign from Roderick Signs, St. Joseph, is finished. Installation will begin at the end of January.

Six area superintendents toured Cornerstones of Care alternative schools in Kansas City. The group is investigating using one of the area schools to house an alternative school.

Midwest Digital Systems, Kansas City, presented a quote for finishing the alarm system in the ag classroom. The quote included some extra items that administrators asked them to remove before proceeding.

The school district is accepting bids for fixing the boiler. Administrators want to fix the boiler to make it last another year. Staff will continue to investigate future heating options.

Personnel was discussed during closed session. No action was taken.

The next meeting will be at 1 pm, February 15. The board will be visiting elementary classrooms during the day beginning at 10 am.

Elementary enrollment is 104 and junior high and high school is 105.

Elementary Principal Rita Carroll has opened a Twitter account. Interested individuals can follow the school at @NodHoltElem.

High School Principal Ethan Sickles attended the MSHSAA area meeting. He reported that the school received a compliment about a student who displayed sportsmanship during a South Holt game. He also reported that there was pressure from the legislature about changing when sport practices can begin, with a possibility of beginning practices in July. In the future, depending on legislation, students could begin playing ball games before school starts.
