The Maryville R-II School Board approved multiple capital improvement projects during its regular meeting May 17.

It was approved to purchase six pole lights for the high school baseball field from Pinnacle Electric Inc., St. Joseph, for $140,385.

ACME Floor Co., Lenexa, KS, will be refinishing the middle school gym floors and repairing soft spots for $15,959.

The board voted to purchase a phone and intercom system from Allegiant Technology, Kansas City. The system will include a one-time capital purchase of $36,027 as well as a monthly fee of $3,646. The phones will use the internet and a cloud storage system and will host several features including voicemail for all staff and the ability for the superintendent to page every room of every building at the same time.

The school board accepted the bid from Bob Severson, S&S Properties, for $126,606 for the purchase of the house built by the technical school students during the past school year.

It was voted to notify ACES that for the 2018-19 school year Maryville will withdraw from the program and will no longer act as the fiscal agent. Instead, staff hopes to start an alternative school and house it in the current district office, allowing the school administration and school board to  have more control over the programs at the alternative school.

Blue Cross Blue Shield donated $2,000 to the school to fund wellness activities.

It was approved to let LJ Hart and Company, St. Louis, refund the $5,250,000 Series 2015 Bonds, dropping the interest rate by two percent, saving the district money.
