A good example of a regional sport is water polo. There are 25 NCAA Division I teams that play men’s water polo. Most are located in California or the east coast. Since 1969, when the NCAA Water Polo Championships were first held, only California schools have won a title. California produces over 69 percent of the water polo players. Slightly over 11 percent come from overseas with Serbia the leader accounting for 18 players.
