On May 16, gray skies and rain showers didn’t dampen the spirits of the graduates at Jefferson, Maryville, North Nodaway and South Nodaway high schools.
The Northeast Nodaway School District presented 18 graduates with their diplomas the afternoon of May 9. Salutatorian Angela Standiford and Valedictorian Anne Schieber gave speeches during the ceremony.
Ree Sullivan, librarian at Eugene Field, has participated in the reading series “What Do You Know About Recycling?” As part of that series, students have been creating items made from recyclable materials. The students only get about 25 minutes to complete their projects with whatever supplies are available that day that the teacher puts out for
Northeast Nodaway science students placed in 23 events at the regional science olympiad, had 12 first place finishes and a school sixth place finish. The 12 first place finishes moved on to the state competition where the school competed against larger schools. The team placed 14th out of 42 schools. First place finishes, including event
County teams represented at the Stanberry Invite, April 9, held in Stanberry and King City were Northeast Nodaway, North Nodaway, West Nodaway, Platte Valley and Nodaway-Holt.
Nodaway-Holt John Furhman placed seventh in the 800-meter race 2:28.52 at the Indian Relays in Tarkio on April 14. North Nodaway Saryn Brown competed in the high jump taking fourth place.
With 30 entries, the Maryville Optimist Club recently awarded the top three winners in the Optimist Essay Contest. Using the theme, “Reaching Your Dreams by Using Optimism,” students submitted a 700-800 word essay. The essays were judged by a panel of five judges.
