A Burlington Jct. man has been charged with statutory sodomy and endangering the welfare of a child.

Emmett S. Bates, 30, was arraigned October 2 in the Fourth Circuit Court in Nodaway County before Judge Douglas Thomson, facing charges filed September 27 of Felony Statutory Sodomy or Attempted Statutory Sodomy – Deviate Sexual Intercourse – Person Less than 14 Years of Age and Felony Endangering the Welfare of a Child Creating Substantial Risk – 1st Degree – 1st Offense – Sexual Conduct.

According to the probable cause statement, an investigation by the Nodaway County Sheriff’s Department found a 12-year-old was sexually assaulted with the use of an adult sex toy by Bates in June of this year. A box of adult toys was found in his home and DNA samples were sent to the Missouri Highway Patrol lab for further analysis.

Bates will be back in court on October 16 for a counsel status hearing.
